Not many couples can claim that they met, married and began their life together at the same street address. But this story is charmingly true for Katherine and Jason. Both were living on the upper residence floors of Kimpton Cardinal Hotel when Jason asked his neighbor for a date. Apparently, living three doors from each other made dating — falling in love and proposing — quite convenient.

They had reserved one of the rooms on the 20th floor — an ideal location for the bridal party to hang out and get ready. Everyone in the bridal party helped make it an especially stress-free day. Their wedding venue was equally opportune. Because Katherine’s family roots are here, Winston-Salem was the natural choice. So was the Cardinal. “The whole staff is almost like family to us,” Katherine says. During the days before the wedding, Katherine was grateful to The Katharine’s bartenders, who were “quick to soothe my mini-bridezilla moments with cocktails or food!”

On the big day in May 2019, the Cardinal wedding team stepped up the early summer soiree with special touches like custom cocktails, magnolia blossoms and a late-night mac-n-cheese bar. As an extra touch to commemorate their big day, Katherine and Jason picked the color of the lights shining from the top of our historic building that night. And, to keep their guests as happy as the bride, the Katharine Brasserie tricked out the hotel recreation room for them all weekend long. Although this amazing couple has “left the nest” and moved to Durham, NC, they will always hold a special place in our matchmaking hearts.
